Edinburgh Zoo

I just took a short holiday up in Edinburgh and while there decided to pop in to the zoo. The weather was unexpectedly good for Scotland but by middle of the day visit created some problems with some harsh lighting to content with together with usual problems of getting around the constraints of the enclosures.

Starting off with a few birds. The zoo has an impressive collection of penguins including the large King Penguin.

The Stellar Sea Eagle is a very impressive and majestic bird.

On to the mammals which proved all together more tricky.

and Golden Lion Tamarin

To finish off, a couple of photos of the Sumatran Tiger

Worryingly licking it lips, and probably thinking about photographer for lunch.

It is always good to get some eye contact in a photo.

Wonderful shots from Edin Zoo, Rich!

Living in this neck of the woods it's not as wet and dull up here as people think - we can get it warm here too especially in May. Glad you could see it. I've just been out watering my garden as everything is drying out. Its going to be a scorcher for the Edin Marathon today :-D

That last shot of the tiger is brilliant but my fav has to be the Sea Lion - fantastic :-D

My goodness Richard Steel, but your photography is second to none. It is all excellent stuff and the assortment must be related to your locality. I have some birds on My Birds Blog but none so special as your's.

I have squirrels and rabbits but nothing else. I admire your photograhy skills.

I also use a Canon but only a Rebel SXi and Canon Lenses and just bought a Sigma 400mm but it weighs a ton so I have not been able to use it much.

Rich : These will rate as some of the best images of wildlife in a Zoo. It doesn't get better than this.

Superb extreme closeup showing the character and personality of each of these birds and animals.

I m sure the Edinburgh Zoo authorities will publish these images if they get to see it, not a bad idea to approach them Rich.

Love your photos! I think my favorite is the last one with the Tiger's tongue hanging out!

Thanks for the comments. I alwasy love an occasional trip to the zoo and the challenges its presents. Edinburgh Zoo is excellent and ranks amongst my favourites as there are plenty of photo opportunities to be had and they also have some quite unusual animals.

Cheers

Rich

Fantastic shots! Much respect for the squirrel monkey and tamarin shots as I can fully appreciate the challenging low light conditions in the living links centre and magic forest. I love the penguin under the water, with its accompanying shadow, and the tiger shots are stunning.

I'm going to look through the rest of your blog now, but what I've seen so far I like very much!
